  • This rate covers the cost of paying our instructor (instructors are paid $40/hr) as well as the cost of staff time to organize and promote the workshop.

This workshop will provide you with insight into the festival and distribution scene in Canada, and help you determine the next steps needed to get your film out there and get the attention of festivals, distributors, and online platforms that fit your project.

Instructor: Taylor Olson

Taylor Olson (he/him) is an actor & filmmaker based in Mi’kma’ki/ Nova Scotia.

His first feature film - Bone Cage - has been released to critical acclaim; sweeping the awards at the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival and earning over twenty other accolades at festivals around the globe. Bone Cage screened in competition at Camerimage, the Forward Future section of the Beijing International Film Festival, Dances With Films, and has an upcoming screening at Cinequest Film Festival this fall. Bone Cage was nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards in 2021 for Adapted Screenplay & Supporting Actress. Taylor is the recipient of the 2020 Arts Nova Scotia Emerging Artist Award.

AFCOOP recognizes there are systemic inequities which create barriers for people in accessing film training. In an effort to address and recognize historical and present-day inequities we have created a new pay-what-you-can style pricing plan for our Fall Workshop series. Please feel free to sign up for whatever price-point you are most comfortable with. No questions asked.

$25 - regular rate. This rate covers the cost of paying our instructor (instructors are paid $40/hr) as well as the cost of staff time to organize and promote the workshop. 

$15 - reduced rate. This rate makes a contribution towards our costs. 

$0 - FREE :) This rate acknowledges that financial means should not be a barrier to becoming a filmmaker.
