This workshop introduces participants to the elements needed to make an independent film. Participants will walk through the filmmaking process from beginning to end. In addition they will receive a better understanding of the various jobs on a film set and how they work in conjunction with each other. A special focus will be made on the tools and resources that are available for making films in Nova Scotia.

Instructor: Stephanie Clattenburg

Stephanie Clattenburg is an indigenous writer-director who has been writing and directing films, music video and documentaries for over 10 years. She is currently in post production for her feature film 'Night Blooms'. The film is a gritty coming of age story about teenage girls set in the 1990’s. Her feature length documentary about gender bias in the music industry titled 'Play Your Gender' had it’s world premier in Canberra, Australia in 2016 and was awarded the ‘Edith Lando Peace Prize, which goes to the film which best utilizes the power of cinema to further the goal of social justice and peace’ from The Reel 2 Real Film Festival in Vancouver. Clattenburg has received several awards for her work in film including the ‘Emerging Artist Award’ from Arts Nova Scotia in 2018. She was also chosen as a '5 in Focus Director' from ‘Women in View’ partnered with ‘Women in Film and Television Atlantic’ and ‘Telefilm Canada’ to shine the spotlight on 5 female directors from the Atlantic region.

Please note dates are tentative and subject to change, workshops may be added or removed depending on registration numbers and interest.

VENUE ACCESSIBILITY: AFCOOP is located on the main floor of 5663 Cornwallis St. Upon request a ramp can be set up over the two concrete steps leading up to our main entrance. There is a gender neutral bathroom located inside our office space.
