Instructor Charles Wahl is an award winning filmmaker that splits his time working between Halifax and Toronto with extensive experience in the world of commercials, and branded content. In this 3hr workshop, he will describe his own career path, share samples of his work and include tips and tricks that he has learned along the way. Topics will include: opportunities for commercial work, pitching yourself and your ideas, working with clients and more.

Charles Wahl started making short films in high school and hasn't let go of the camera since. An award winning Filmmaker Charles has written and directed work in the Narrative World, Commercial, and Music Video
Charles wrote and directed his award winning debut feature Film Webdultery which has won awards at numerous film festivals and was distributed in the USA, Canada, and internationally. Recently his short video project - A Short Portrait: Brent - was chosen as the closing film of the TIFF x Instagram Shorts Festival in conjunction with the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. His latest short film – Little Grey Bubbles, had the honour of screening at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival, the 2019 Aspen ShortsFest, the 2019 Clermont- Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the 2019 Seattle International Film Festival, and was selected to be part of the 2019 Telefilm Canada Not Short on Talent Showcase in Cannes.
Charles has been working professionally as a commercial director for over ten years and has directed work for clients including BMW/MINI, KIA, TD Bank, Mazda, McDonald's, Nissan, Toyota, Quaker, Captain Morgan, Campbell's, BMO, Nestle, Bell, Blue Cross, New Brunswick Tourism, Nova Scotia Tourism, and The Vancouver Sun.
VENUE ACCESSIBILITY: AFCOOP is located on the main floor of 5663 Cornwallis St. Upon request there can be a ramp set up over the two concrete steps leading up to our main entrance. There is a gender neutral bathroom located inside our office space.
