INSTRUCTOR: Mike Snider

I started in the film industry in 2003 as an office PA after taking every camera course AFCOOP had to offer.   My understanding of cameras and film helped me get into the trainee program in 2005 on a low budget feature called Summerhood and from there I’ve been working steadily every year since then.

When I first started in camera everything was still shot on film.  35mm for features and 16 for MOW’s and tv.  I learned to load film before I started the trainee program so I was an instant asset to the 2nd AC’s I worked with because they could trust me to load right away.  I credit AFCOOP with giving me the tools I needed to dive into the camera department head first and be an instant valuable member of the team.

The past 15 years have been the most exciting years of my life.  The opportunities I’ve had in film have been surreal.  Working alongside some of the best filmmakers and actors in the world, has been a dream come true and I’m thankful to everyone that helped me out along the way.  I look forward to  being one of those people that can pave the way for future camera assistants and filmmakers in the industry here in Nova Scotia.
