This workshop is open to the public as a part of the FILM 5 and Trainee programs.
Proper management is an important component of realizing your creative vision. This two-day crash course will teach participants about the organizational tools that help a production to run smoothly and how to manage potential production problems. Topics covered include the role of the Production Manager and team, script breakdown, budgeting, cost reporting, hiring personnel, locations and money management. Bring a calculator – there will be lots of hands-on examples.

Melani Wood travelled to Tanzania, Africa to make her first documentary at age 18 where she was immediately hooked. Melani is now an award- winning Producer of documentaries, narrative films and commercials. She has worked for several seasons on popular television shows including CBC’s prime- time comedy “Mr. D”, HBO Canada’s “Call Me Fitz” and has Production Managed documentary series for Discovery and History Channel, including History’s “The Curse of Oak Island”. In 2015 Melani was one of eight recipients in Canada to be granted the Hot Docs: Documentary Channel “Doc Accelerator” scholarship. Inspired by a desire to learn, travel and meet people who are following their passions, Melani continues to follow her own dream of sharing worthwhile and encouraging films with the world. “Invading Giants” is Melani’s most recent film, which premiered at Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival in 2017. Melani is in pre-production on her first narrative feature film “Bone Cage”, going to camera in Spring of 2019.
