With this package you will get access to the three film processing workshops that AFCOOP will be offering this fall: Chemical Processing Film & Eco-Processing Film.

The Chemical Processing Film Workshop will take place on November 10 from 10 AM - 5 PM will be on traditional chemical film processing and will take place at AFCOOP's Animation Studio.  AFCOOP's Animation Studio is in the back of NSCAD's Academy Building (1649 Brunswick) the entrance is through the parking lot on Market St.

In this workshop participants will learn hand processing film with chemical developers that are readily available from AFCOOP, and other sources. We'll also touch briefly on how they compare to alternative methods.

Instructor: Herb Theriault

The two Eco-Processing film workshops will take place on Sunday, November 18 from 10 AM - 5 PM as well as Sunday November 25 from 10 AM - 5 PM at AFCOOP.

In these workshops participants will learn how to hand-process super 8mm and 16mm black and white film using eco-developers and reversal bleaches. Participants will learn about the science behind eco-reversal process and how to mix the ingredients and process film safely. We will film, develop, and screen our films all during the workshop. The group will use caffenol and a plant-based developer along with the eco-reversal bleach process to develop the film. Participants will receive a zeen of the processes covered in the workshop and links to on-line resources. At the end of the workshop students will have hands-on experience and the knowledge to embark on their own eco-processing adventures.

Instructor: Herb Theriault & Dawn George

Dawn George is a Halifax based media arts who loves to muck around in the garden and make films. She received her film training through Afcoop’s One-Minute Film Program. Her DIY approach to filmmaking reflects her appreciation and respect for movement, nature, and sound. Her works have screened at Alchemy, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, WNDX, Antimatter [media art], Aesthetica, FLEX Fest, Imagine Science Film Festival, and 2018 Grow Op at the Gladstone.

Herb Theriault is a filmmaker working primarily in the analogue realm. With a focus on hand processing, often using alternative chemistry, he explores themes relating to the natural world, and how humans fit into it. His work has screened nationally, and internationally, including the Images Festival, ARKIPEL, and WNDX.
