As one half of the Desperate Optimists, Christine Molloy has spent the last three decades creating a unique body of documentary, experimental and feature films with her partner Joe Lawlor.  The Desperate Optimists come out of a background in experimental theatre, and first achieved acclaim in cinema for their series of short films called Civic Life, vignettes of the urban everyday shot all over the UK.  Sight and Sound wrote that “As Civic Life shows, Desperate Optimists are the filmmakers we need in these austere times.”  Their feature debut, Helen (2009), was called “a fascinating film” by The Independent.

This masterclass is based on Molloy's film "Further Beyond" which will be screening at Carbon Arc Cinemas Nov. 5th, 7pm and it is highly encouraged that participants attend the screening. Tickets can be purchased: www.CarbonArc.ca

The masterclass is $20 for the general public, $10 for AFCOOP members and FREE for Dalhousie students.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

This masterclass is part of New Frontiers in Documentary: European and Canadian perspectives sponsored by the Canada Research Chair in European Studies (Dalhousie University), in cooperation with AFCOOP.
